About

The development of the SFFCC seeks to right the wrongs of past redevelopment projects which wiped away a large number of the historical structures that were important landmarks of San Francisco’s Filipino community.  Adjacent to the Yerba Buena Center, whose creation displaced many resident Filipinos in the mid-1960’s, the SFFCC will support the local Filipino community and round off the hub of multi-cultural and arts institutions, including the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Museum of the African Diaspora, the Mexican Museum, the Contemporary Jewish Museum, and the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts.

The need for this project is recognized and supported broadly.  In addition to the many Filipino organizations, private and public agencies in SOMA, in the San Francisco Bay Area, across the State and country which support the SFFCC, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi has been the strongest public advocate thus far, with support from Congressman Tom Lantos, Senator Barbara Boxer, and Senator Dianne Feinstein who sponsored the federal appropriations bill for the project.

In February 2005, the SFFCC was established as a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization.
